Kim's brother Ryan arrived Wednesday night around 12:30am, which is right after dark. So last night while we were sitting in TapRoot watching Hobo Jim (who it turns out is pals with Seamus Kennedy), I enjoyed watching Ryan periodically looking out the windows in disbelief at how bright it was in Anchorage until well after midnight. I'm used to it by now, and it reminded me how wonderfully weird this place is.
We'll see if I feel that way when winter comes.
the official balladeer of Alaska
So Hobo Jim is the official balladeer of Alaska - we first saw him down in Seward over the 4th of July, and learned he would be up here in Anchorage at the Taproot (a neat venue we discovered a couple weeks ago) the day after Ryan arrived. He sings a lot of songs about Alaska that he wrote, plus a lot of good drinking songs and more he learned from pals all over the country. I guess he rules the state fair and stuff as well.
