Talk about a LONG day - I started getting birthday wishes at 8:30pm last night (thanks for FB reminders and different time zones) - it was crazy getting birthday messages from so many old friends, but it made me think of various birthday celebrations I've had over the years and stirred up some fun memories (yay FB for making connections)!

Anyway, last night after watching the sunset on my 32nd year (yes, sunset at 11:30pm), we rode our bikes back home and I opened various cards and small packages (it was after midnight) - fun way to get things started in year 33!  I slept in (what else do I have to do?) and Jason picked me up at 10:15am so we could watch the World Cup game at a local watering hole - we really wanted to watch at least one of the games - so I donned my Ukrainian soccer jersey (appropriately #7 - Shevchenko) and headed to town.  Jason was disappointed Germany lost - I was surprised he focused through a whole game - we did have beer though (good excuse for a pre-noon bday beer) and then lunch.

I meandered around downtown Anchorage once Jason went back to work - I couldn't answer my phone because the microphone mysteriously broke, but I enjoyed getting text and voice mail birthday messages all day.  I listened to the Alaska Brass playing in the park and talked to some of Jason's co-workers.  Once it started to sprinkle, I biked home just before the downpour (good timing!).  I really enjoyed talking to friends and family on the phone today - makes us seem not so far away.

Jason took me to the restaurant we first had king crab together 6 years ago (on the trip to Alaska in which we started dating) - of course we had king crab again, and a nice bourban salmon - topped off with shared cheesecake and all washed down with raspberry wheat beer.  I got a really cool jade necklace that he had seen me eyeballing last weekend in Seward, and a really nice camera - since we happen to be in a place I can take lots of neat pictures.  He sure treats me well!

Now, we are trying to stay awake (tough after that great dinner) because me brother will arrive shortly - once we pick him up at the airport, we'll initiate him at Humpy's and then look ahead to his 2 week adventure here in Alaska.  Not a bad way to spend my first day of 33 (if it's good enough for rolling rock, I think it will be a good year!)
