?? Days 2, 3, 4, and 5 - Masai Mara National Park in Kenya https://www.masaimara.com/ Gamewatchers Safaris connected us with Ashnil Mara Camp, and after flying into the wrong airstrip (not our fault) in the middle of the Mara, our driver and guide, Kifa, finally found us.

The drive to camp gave us a taste of the days ahead...bumpy roads, open Land Cruiser, knowledgeable and friendly guide, and amazing animals crossed our path!
The camp was nice- our tent was definitely on the "glamping" side, but we appreciated the full shower and toilet right in our room! We had a lovely regular table in the dining room with a view of the Ashnil River - which is in the path of the Great Migration at the right time of year (not April). The river had plenty of hippos and crocodiles - we could hear them like they were right outside our tent, but they were on the other side of an electric fence and down a steep cliff from us. Jason saw a baboon sneaking around the grounds on evening, but fortunately no baboons or other creatures made their way into our tent (our food and medicine was tucked in a safe, just in case).

Kifa took us out on morning and evening game drives - just us! It was the off season, so we didn't have to share the vehicle with other tourists- we had our own private safari! We did see others at the camp, but they were connected with other tour companies and had their own schedules.

For 4 days, we criss-crossed Masai Mara Natural Reserve and were awed by the wildlife we happened upon. It was truly extraordinary, and I will share many of the thousands of photos we took ? in the posts ahead. While I will share the photos that will be sure to wow you, it's also important to note that we drove around 3-6 hours multiple times a day on extremely bumpy roads - our pedometers registered 20,000 steps per drive but we were sitting in the Land Cruiser the whole time!

It was a good core workout at times ? We remarked several times that if we had the kiddos with us we would hear "I'm bored" because we did go an hour or more without spotting anything amazing at times. (No wifi and tablets would fall out of their hands anyway).

Stay tuned...up close encounters with animals of the African savanna ahead ?
